The old COBA sponsored no activities whatsoever aimed at bring Correction Officers and their families together. All that changed on July 11, 1998, when COBA sponsored its first- ever family outing for New York City's Boldest at Rye Playland Amusement Park in Rye, New York. Food, rides, music and admission were free to Correction Officers, their spouses and children from mid-day through dusk. COBA members and their families gloried in the sun, fun, rides and amusements.

The response and the praise were so great that COBA has sponsored a family outing at Rye Playland every year since then. Each and every fun-filled year, free rides, live entertainment and a multi-course barbeque are the main features. Approximately 10,000 COs and family members have attended each year's Rye Playland outing.
