COBA 2017 CIty Council Endorsement

NEW YORK- The Correction Officers’ Benevolent Association, New York City’s second-largest law enforcement union with over 20,000 active and retired members, is announcing today the union’s endorsement of twenty-three candidates for City Council in the upcoming Primary Election on September 12th.

With over 20,000 active and retired Correction Officers, COBA has proven itself as one of the most politically influential unions in New York helping to elect Michael Bloomberg Mayor in 2001, George Pataki for Governor in 1995 and becoming the first union outside of Illinois to endorse Barack Obama for President of the United States in 2007.

COBA President Elias Husamudeen said, “On behalf of the men and women who patrol New York City’s toughest precincts, the city’s jails, we are very proud to endorse these dedicated men and women from across each of the five Boroughs of New York for City Council. Whether they have served on the Council before or have represented New Yorkers in Albany, or have never even previously served in elected office, they each have earned our respect and support. We trust them to keep the interests of New York City Correction Officers and their families at the forefront of their policymaking over the next four years. Over 60% of our members, both active and retired, live in this city. We raise our children here, we take care of our parents here and we are a vital part of the communities in which we live. Now more than ever, we need leaders on the City Council who understand our contributions to this city and our significant role in maintaining public safety and who will never let us down. We will do all that we can to help these candidates achieve victory on September 12th.”
