Paulette Bernard was born in Brooklyn, New York, to the late Chakah & Elizabeth Bernard. She is the third oldest of five sibling. Paulette completed her education in the New York City Public School system. She attended Winston Salem State University for Nursing but decided to change her major and graduated from the College of New Rochelle with a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology. During her time in college, she raised and nurtured two amazing children Sabina E. Johnson and Julius Johnson III, that she is extremely proud of, and is also a first time grandmother to a beautiful grandson Elijah Wayne.
She has worked for the City since 1986. She worked as a Traffic Agent Level 2 for three years and as a School Safety Agent Level 2&3 for 13 years. In June 2002, she became a New York City Correction Officer and worked at RMSC for 2 ½ years. She then transferred to the Transportation Division, where she transferred inmates both inter-borough and state. Paulette was the CARE person for Transportation, a member of the ceremony unit and because of her love and compassion as well as caring personality; she decided to join the Union where she became one of the strongest voices for her colleagues.
Paulette became a member of Sarah Chapter # 39 under the jurisdiction of the Star of Bethlehem Order of the Eastern Star of Brooklyn in 1994, where she served as the Past Worthy matron. She is a faithful member of the St. Paul Community Baptist Church in the East New York Brooklyn area where she serves as a part of the Security Ministry and the Deaf Ministry. She has an unmovable love for both God and her family, the two entities that have helped in keeping her grounded and focused. Paulette defines herself as a mother, sister, friend and mentor to many. For those who have been touched by her presence, they would define her as a PHENOMENAL woman.
The following is her favorite scripture which has been the foundation of her walk in life: “I will life my eyes to the hills from whence comes my help; my help comes from the Lord”
Psalm 121: 1-2
Paulette Bernard was recently appointed to the COBA Executive Board as the Brooklyn Borough Trustee
