Tyson Jones was appointed January 4, 1996 and after completion of his academy training under DWIC Errol Toulon (retired), he was later assigned to North Infirmary Command were again he was fortunate enough to work under DWIC. Toulon to which he says “Helped lay down the foundation to the goals that he’s achieved.” He later moved on to the Transportation Division and is now currently assigned to the Correction Academy / Firearms & Tactics Unit as an Instructor under Warden Pennye L. Jones.

With the encouragement and support of his wife Correction Officer Camina Jones he is currently enrolled in an Associates program at Monroe College. In addition, Officer Jones has obtained several other certifications from other departments and agencies such as the Division of Criminal Justice Services, the Municipal Police Training Council, The New York City Police Department, The Department of Motor Vehicles just to name a few. Moreover Instructor Jones serves as the departments Assistant Chairperson for lesson Plans, and some of his most relevant areas of expertise include performing investigations and reporting findings on most departmental firearms related incidents, he has assisted the Application Investigation Unit under Dr. Larry Johnson in forming the biggest correction classes in the departments history.

Officer Jones extensive experience in the agency and ability to take appropriate safety measures has earned him departmental recognition in his participation following the World Trade Center disaster (9/11) and for his assistance in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina in 2005.

Correction Officer Tyson Jones believes his mission is to create and maintain a solid foundation, skill, and confidence by providing quality training and development opportunities to our members which he calls his “brothers and sisters.”
